Success Story
A need identified at the start of this school year on a School Needs Assessment was improving the overall school atmosphere.
Our Student Support Coordinator, with the help of a teacher, started a group for girls called “Girls Code." The group aims to provide girls with a supportive environment for learning life skills while promoting fairness, reducing the number of behavior referrals amongst the female population, and increasing positive peer interactions.
The group meets weekly with 25-30 girls from 6th through 8th grade. They cover conflict resolution, anger management, dealing with stress, bullying, self-advocacy, and healthy relationships.
As a result of the group, fighting among the female school population has dropped drastically.
